Description

The gleaming, gently undulating fronds of this ‘Chrissie’ Bird’s Nest Fern offer a bit of fascination. The ends of the leaves become branched or “crested,” giving each frond a distinctive personality all its own. As a whole, Asplenium antiquum ‘Crissie’ forms a showy jade green mound, and it’s fun to see the new fronds emerge as small, bright green curls in the center of the plant.

Care Guide

Light: Moderate, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight and deep shade.

Water: Water thoroughly during the growing season but less so in the winter. Keep moist but do not allow to stand in water. Bird’s Nest Ferns are best watered around the plant, directly onto the soil as watering the centre of the plant may cause it to rot.

Temperature: Cool to average household temperatures between 16-32°C. Keep away from draughts.

Humidity: Does not like hot, dry conditions, prefers at least some degree of humidity. Mist regularly. Ideal for a bathroom or kitchen. Can also be grown in a terrarium to increase humidity levels.

Feed: Does not require a lot of extra feeding. Apply a weak solution occasionally during the growth season.

Care tips: Remove excess dust with a damp cloth, however take care to avoid tender new fronds. Do not use leaf shine as the fronds are sensitive to chemicals. Rotate your plant if it gets more light from one side, this will help maintain an even shape.

Height and Growth Rate: Ultimate indoor height 60cm and spread 45cm. Plants can grow bigger than this but only in very humid conditions. It is slow growing.

Origin: Eastern Asia.
